India adoption paperwork DONE

More paperwork will be necessary after we get back to the US, but in terms of actually transporting Shivani and Aashish to their forever home, we are DONE with paperwork!  Two of the required appointments that we’d started late last week included obtaining their travel visas and Hague Convention Adoption Certificates from the US Embassy and applying for “No Objection” exit permits for Amy and me from a Indian government agency known as the FRRO.  This afternoon we picked up all of the completed documentation!

When we went to the FRRO office we were in and out within 10 minutes.  Our adoption guide isn’t permitted to go into this particular office with applicants, so he was waiting outside.  When we got out he looked very concerned and asked what was wrong.  We replied that nothing was wrong, and that we were done.  He was amazed, and said that he’s helped over 200 families with their adoptions in Dehli and he’s never seen someone get through the FRRO office that fast!

We have a small army praying for us on this trip, so to be honest I wasn’t at all surprised.  Thanks to everyone who has been praying for us, and please keep it up!

  1. Congratulations! This is so exciting!

And Amy, those earrings are fabulous! I don’t remember ever seeing those before. Gorgeous.

Every time Joel writes about the amazing things you pull out of your purse I think of Mary Poppins and her carpetbag. Remember when she pulls a five foot tall floor lamp and a potted plant out of there? I hope you have at least one more cool thing to whip out before you land in Minneapolis.

I love that you got to drive. I was the lucky one who got to be in the car when you did all that crazy driving in Nairobi. Those were awesome times. Any roundabouts yesterday?

You guys have fun tomorrow! I’m glad there is no more paperwork hanging over you on your last day.

  2. Congratulations! I just caught up and am so excited for you all! Thank you for sharing your journey- it sounds pretty amazing! We will continue praying!

  3. We heard from Jacob yesterday at work that you guys are home now – welcome back! We hope that this new transition home to MN will go smoothly for you all. Blessings, prayers, and hugs from your MA family!
