Home study complete

Angie and Nia

This is a photo of our social worker, Angie, at our final home study interview in which she came to our house to talk with Zinnia about the pending adoption.  It was both fun and satisfying to watch them reading together about children in different parts of the world.

We are happy to report that our home study is now complete!  This means that we have been approved by our adoption agency, Children’s Home Society, as adoptive parents.  We are waiting for them to finish their written report, which will then be submitted to both the US government and the Indian government (along with additional paperwork on our part).  Once both governments have reviewed and accepted our dossiers, we will be approved as an internationally adoptive family and will attempt to be matched with Riya’s children.

It’s been an awesome experience so far working with Children’s Home Society.  The work is rigorous and extensive, but it’s very clear that they care deeply about children, and that they fully understand how to prepare us for the complexities of international adoption, transracial families, attachment, and parenting children who’ve experienced grief and loss.  We will share more about these issues in future posts.

The other thing that we’ve really appreciated about Children’s Home Society is that they are working hard to expedite this process, knowing that there are identified children waiting.  This has definitely been an answer to prayer.
